Dark Knight Makes It to the Top Again

Dark Knight was able to grab the top spot again this weekend at box offices.

The Dark Knight came out ahead in the box offices this weekend for its fourth weekend in a row. This led it into the No. 3 biggest movie of all time, reported Reuters. The sequel in the Batman series earned an estimated $26 million during the three days since Friday, according to Warner Bros. Pictures. This brings its 24 day total up to $441.5 million.

It ranks behind Titanic, which made $601 million, and Star Wars at No. 2, with $461 million. If the rankings were adjusted for inflation, The Dark Knight would find itself back in the No. 49 spot, according to Box Office Mojo. This adjustment would put Gone with the Wind at the No. 1 spot, having made $1.4 billion in today's dollars.

Warner Bros. expects Dark Knight to make it all the way to $520 million.

Coming in at the No. 2 slot this weekend was Columbia Pictures' release, Pineapple Express, with $22.4 million. The comedy would have definitely made it to the No. 1 slot if the unit of Sony Corp. hadn't opted to open it on Wednesday to maximize sales during the holidays. The five day total would have then been somewhere around $40.5 million, reported Reuters.

Another Wednesday opener was The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 which came in at No. 4, with $10.8 million for the weekend. The drama had a five day income of $19.7 million. Its predecessor was released before America Ferrera and Blake Lively became stars in Ugly Betty and Gossip Girl and only earned $9.8 million during its first three days, according to Reuters.
