Dark Knight Takes the Top Spot Again

The Dark Knight has become the leader at the box office once more this weekend, beating out the new "Mummy" movie.

The Dark Knight found its way to the top again this weekend, fending off the new Mummy sequel, in North America for its third weekend in a row. Not only that, but according to Reuters, it may even find its way to becoming the second-biggest movie of all time.

The movie earned another $43.8 million in three days, from Friday to Sunday, according to its distributor, Warner Bros. Pictures. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor came in second, distributed by Universal, with a total of $42.5 million.

The total for The Dark Knight has risen to $394.9 million and Warner Bros. expects it to earn at least another $100 million, surpassing the $461 million total of Star Wars, from 1977, as well as its two reissues, the current No. 2 movie of all time through Canada and the United States. Titanic, from 1997, pulled in a total of $601 million and holds the current record for No. 1 movie of all time.

The movie is already on track to break the $400 million mark, but it's also on track to do it in the fastest time ever, by Monday or Tuesday even. This will be only its 18th or 19th day and will break the record that Shrek 2 has for being the fastest to get to the mark in 43 days.
