A Date with Bridget Jones

Oh, the anticipation...

Everyone is talking about the upcoming release of "Bridge Jones: The Edge of Reason," which promises to be movie date viewers won't regret. According to Reuters news service, Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are expected to attend the opening of the sequel to the hit film about a woman on the prowl for happiness, success and the perfect man.

"The Edge of Reason" picks up where "Bridget Jones' Diary" left off-- just after Bridget (Zellweger) fell for the dreamy and understanding Mark Darcy (Firth)--according to United International Pictures' Web site.

While most media attention surrounding the release has centered on Zellweger's physical transformation into the character by "packing on the pounds," it seems many critics forget the real point of the story and why viewers loved the first film. "It's not that unusual for actors to alter their appearance to play a part. But I think if I did it, it wouldn't get anywhere near the amount of attention," Firth told the Boston Herald.

Clearly, Zellweger, who received an Oscar nomination for her role in the first movie, is dedicated to the role and character, not just her dress size. "The film is about this woman whose humanity and honesty is appealing, something we can recognize in ourselves," said Zellweger.

According to the BBC, some estimates suggest this sequel could take more than $200 million at the box office.
