Daughtry to Return to "American Idol"

Chris Daughtry will perform on this Wednesday's result show.

On Wednesday, May 6, Chris Daughtry will return to the American Idol stage with his band, Daughtry, to debut its next single, "No Surprise." Following in this season's tradition of past Idols coming back to perform on the results show, Daughtry will sing the new song co-written by himself and Nickelback's Chad Kreuger, according to Rolling Stone magazine.

Daughtry placed fourth in the competition during season five, which saw the American Idol title go to Taylor Hicks. The loss didn't stunt Daughtry's career though, as his debut album skyrocketed to the top of the charts and launched several top 40 singles, a successful tour and a couple of Grammy nominations.

This week, American Idol is going rock with Velvet Revolver's Slash mentoring the final four contestants. According to Daughtry's own Twitter page, his favorite Idol contestant of the season is Kris Allen. Daughtry's new album will be released on July 14.
