The studio where David Letterman's late night show tapes was vandalized early this morning. James Whittemore, 22, of New York, was arrested for committing the crime.
According to Us Magazine, the 22-year-old used a metal bat to smash the front glass of Broadway's Ed Sullivan theater. He then flipped stanchions in the lobby, but police responded to a 911 call and took the man into custody. Police believe that Whittemore was under the influence at the time.
Despite the damage, Late Show with David Letterman will be taping as usual tomorrow, as the actual set was not accessed by Whittemore.
CBS said in a statement today, "We are grateful for the NYPD's quick and effective response." Whittemore has been arrested on charges of burglary and criminal mischief in connection with the early morning break-in.
