Sunday's airing of the Daytime Emmy Awards received an all-time low in ratings, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Its debut on the CW marked the first time it hasn't aired on any of the big three networks: NBC, ABC, and CBS.
Viewers tuned in to the awards show in far less number than in previous years. Numbers were down 50 percent from last year, averaging 2.3 million viewers.
Broadcasting rotated between the big three networks for years until NBC took itself out four years ago. ABC aired the ceremony last year.
Following all-time low ratings in 2006 and 2008, CBS decided to leave the Daytime Emmys alone, and the awards show was without a home, until the CW stepped in.
There was some good news on the night, as the Daytime Emmys added viewers steadily through the 8-10 p.m. Sunday telecast.
The night was dominated by NBC's "Sunday Night Football." In overnight ratings, the Chicago Bears-Denver Broncos game delivered 7.3/12, the best overnight rating for any NFL preseason game on any network in five years.
