Del Porto Upsets Nadal
Juan Martín del Potro defeats Raphael Nadal to reach the US Open final.
The New York Times reports that No. 6 seeded Juan Martín del Potro defeated No. 3 Raphael Nadal to advance to the finals of the US Open. Del Porto controlled the match the whole way, winning 6-2, 6-2, 6-2. The Argentinean's victory will mark his first appearance in a Grand Slam final.According to the Los Angeles Times, the 20-year-old Del Porto will face top-seeded Roger Federer or fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic in the US Open final. Nadal, who was won six Grand Slams but never the US Open struggled with an abdominal injury throughout the tournement.
The Associated Press states that Nadal's loss was the worst of his career in a major tournament. The loss prevents what many thought would be a Nadal-Federer final.
