DeLay's Dancing Debut

Injury worries forgotten as season premieres tonight

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay has recovered from injury concerns, and will make his "Dancing With The Stars" debut tonight.

DeLay plans to bring his political prowess to the ballroom, saying "I'm going to whip the votes. They didn't call me the best whip ever to serve in the House of Representatives for nothing. Cheryl does the dancing. I whip the votes." The former Republican congessman is partnered on the show by Cheryl Burke, the professional who has won the competition outright on two occasions- with singer Drew Lachey and NFL great Emmitt Smith.

DeLay tweeted about a possible stress fracture injury sustained in training for the show last week, but later updated that it was fact, a pre-stress injury.

ABC News are among those noting that he seems to be the most anticipated contestant on a show often maligned for a lack of true star- quality.

Last month DeLay tweeted that "Politics is showbiz too", and according to Burke hasn't found the transition into the DWTS universe overly difficult, although she noted "He does lose patience sometimes. He gets frustrated. He needs to learn to have fun with the whole process."
