Democrats and Republicans Continue Arguing Over Counterterrorism

The Christmas Day bomb plot that was successfully thwarted continues to be a topic of much debate between Democrats and Republicans

The much publicized Christmas Day bomb plot, which was successfully thwarted by heroic passengers and crew members, continues to be a topic of heated debate between President Barack Obama’s administration and the Republican Party.

Counterterrorism adviser for the White House, John Brennan, appeared on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ on Sunday to express his frustration over his belief that the GOP has turned the Christmas Day bomb plot into another means to criticize the current presidential regime.

Many prominent members of the GOP have criticized President Obama’s administration for the way that they handled the attempted terrorist attack. Brennan revealed during his appearance on ‘Meet the Press’ that he briefed four distinguished Republican representatives on Christmas night after terrorist suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was in custody, according to The USA Today.

Brennan stated, “They knew that an FBI custody means that there's a process that you follow as far as Mirandizing and presenting him in front of the magistrate. None of those individuals raised any concerns with me at that point. They didn't say, 'Is he going into military custody? Is he going to be Mirandized?'"

Two of the four individuals that Brennan briefed on Christmas night, Senator Kit Bond of Missouri and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, have spoken out to express their belief that the Obama administration gave terrorists a head start to cover their tracks.
