Dennis Hopper Receives Star On Hollywood Boulevard
73-year-old Dennis Hopper received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame Friday, becoming the 2,403rd star to do so. He revealed months ago that he was battling prostate cancer, and showed up in bandages above his eye and on his arm due to a Thursday fall, according to the LA Times.
Despite seeming joyful at ceremony, the actor looked deteriorated since announcing his condition last October. "Everyone here today that I've invited -- and obviously some that I haven't invited -- have enriched my life tremendously," stated the Easy Rider Actor. "They've shown me a world that I'd never seen, being a farm boy from Dodge City, Kansas."
Jack Nicholson and David Lynch, Johnny Mathis and hundreds of photo snapping fans all came out to support the honor presented by Hollywood Chamber of Commerce president and chief executive Leron Gubler. Viggo Mortensen and film producer Mark Canton spoke some praise to Hopper as well.
"He is someone who has seemed to regularly rise out of the ashes of self-inflicted chaos, surprising us with his originality and wit as an artist and defying the odds by somehow staying alive physically and professionally," spoke Mortensen.
Hopper took the assistance of aides to get on stage, and struggled a bit to speak though he was sincere. "Everything I learned -- I got it all from you, so this has been my home and my schooling. And I love all of you. And I just want to thank you. That's all I can do.
