Depp Signs On to Play a Household Pet in New Film

Depp most recently starred in Sweeney Todd, and has a new movie coming out in which he, Colin Ferrell and Jude Law all play the part that Heath Ledger had signed on for.

Johnny Depp is reunitng with the director of Pirates of the Caribbean, Gore Verbinski. But this time, Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, Will Turner and the gang will be nowhere to be found.

This is the case because Depp will play a household pet who goes on an adventure in Rango, according to Verbinski's interview with Daily Variety.

The story idea was thought up by Verbinski, who will team up with George Lucas's Industrial Light and Magic, who both claim that they can take animation films to a whole new level. A level apparently superior to the work Pixar has been doing in recent years (Cars, Toy Story, and all of the other high-level animated films that studio has produced).

"(Cutting edge techniques) will allow us to capture and translate every aspect of Johnny's performance, using it to drive the computer generated character in a way that has yet to be seen in an animated feature," Verbinski told Daily Variety.

The movie is currently slated for a 2011 release, when Depp's kids will seemingly be in the target age of animated filmgoers.
