Universal Pictures' Despicable Me drew crowds young and old during it’s opening weekend, earning $56.4 million dollars, according to an article from the Associated Press.
The voice of the leading character Gru, who also happens to be the villain, is Steve Carell. He uses a thick accent throughout the film that adds a bit of hilarity. Russell Brand and Julie Andrews also use their voices in this new film to create characters with entertaining personalities.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse came in a distant second, earning $31,708,438, according to the AP. Eclipse has brought in $237 million overall, according to USA Today. Fox’s Predators came in third, which USA Today says surprised many movie professionals. Toy Story 3 lagged in fourth this weekend but has already earned an astonishing $340.2 million.
It seems the animated films are bringing in quite a crowd. The new animated movie, Despicable Me, took viewers by surprise this weekend in astonishing 3D. The yellow oval shaped minions are comedic and Carell’s character is surprisingly lovable as he turns into a father. The three orphaned girls all have unique identities that make them seem realistic. One of the orphaned girl has a love for unicorns that is endearing. Overall, the film is heartwarming and surprisingly funny.
