Director Christopher Nolan Ponders a Sequel to "The Dark Knight"

Christopher Nolan gives his thoughts on making another Batman film.

According to USA Today, Christopher Nolan is very proud of his work on The Dark Knight, due for release on DVD and Blu-ray on December 9, 2008. Currently, The Dark Knight has theatrically grossed $530 million in the U.S. and almost $1 billion worldwide. With the Batman movie franchise rebooted and more successful than ever before, Warner Bros. is incredibly eager to see another film made.

Despite this, director Nolan still isn't eager to jump right away into making a third Batman movie since third movies in trilogies tend to disappoint. "I don't know why they're hard to do. Maybe there's so much expectation to them. But I wouldn't want to do one if it weren't going to be as good as the first or second. That's not respectful to the fans," says Nolan. With regards to a third Batman film, Nolan states he's coming up with some notes and outlines for a potential third movie, but nothing concrete for another movie. "It was obvious when the box office was so big ($530 million domestically) that we had underestimated how ready fans were to reboot the franchise. The worst thing you could do now that you've gotten the plane back in the air is mess up the landing."

Currently, The Dark Knight is set for a theatrical re-release on January 23, 2009 in anticipation of the Academy Award nominations.
