Director David Wain Gains Fame with "Role Models"

With the release of new film "Role Models," it appears director David Wain is achieving mainstream attention.

Director David Wain of the new film, Role Models, may find himself gaining more mainstream attention, according to the Los Angeles Times. Wain gained status with his first directorial film, Wet Hot American Summer, which, over the years, has gained a cult following. His recent Web series, "Wainy Days," has also gained attention, proving the director knows how to draw in an audience.

Wain was brought into the project of Role Models after the film had already been developed. Stars Sean William Scott and Paul Rudd had already been cast, and Wain and Rudd then worked together with collaborator Ken Marino to rewrite the script.

While this was the first mainstream directorial job for Wain, he was pleased to find out that the work involved remained relatively the same. Wain said, "It's still you and the cinematographer trying to figure out where the camera goes and working with the actors and trying to communicate the scene best." However, he did notice the challenges of being hired for the job rather than creating his own project, saying, "What I've tried to do . . . is kind of underlying my voice throughout it."

The cast of Role Models includes some familiar faces for Wain, who is a longtime friend of Rudd, as well as Elizabeth Banks who had one of her first roles in Wet Hot American Summer. Wain and his girlfriend also make a small cameo in the film.

With the leap to mainstream directing, it seems Wain may be continuing strong in the future.
