Disney Acquires Marvel

Disney’s purchase of Marvel leaves fans wondering if it will help make Marvel characters a success

On August 31, Disney announced its plan to buy Marvel Entertainment, and after negotiations over the past few months, the $4.2 billion deal is almost completed. Disney shares have gone up more than 20% since they announced the deal, and the reason it has been going up is because there is hope for new character development and better use of the Marvel heroes in movies, stores, and theme parks.

One reason Disney would benefit from this deal is because Disney would own the Marvel franchises instead of having to get licensing fees. While there are good reasons for Disney to purchase Marvel, it is a very expensive purchase. The price has gone up 40% from the time of the announcement in August.

One thing Disney is worried about is whether moviegoers will accept Marvel’s more unknown characters, and the fans are wondering if Disney will be able to make these characters a success.
