The Walt Disney company made announcements for two big upcoming projects. First, Joss Whedon’s The Avengers will be released in 3D and, secondly, a previously untitled animated project will be released in November 2013. In addition, another untitled Marvel project was announced to be released in April 2014.
Reuters reports that The Avengers, which is the first Marvel project to be marketed and distributed completely by Disney, will still be released on May 4, 2012 in both 3D and 2D. Previously, the film was only going to be released in 2D, like Warner Bros.’ The Dark Knight Rises. Now, the film becomes the second 3D superhero film for next year, coming out a month before Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man.
The film is written and directed by Whedon and stars Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the animated project from Disney animation is now titled Frozen, which will be released in both 2D and 3D on Nov. 27, 2013. Disney has been tight-lipped about the film’s synopsis, only saying that it is a fairy tale.
An untitled Marvel project will be released on April 4, 2014. Deadline reports that this film was originally scheduled for a June 27, 2014 release. Disney did not say what this is about, though.
Slash Film speculates that it could be any number of things, including a second Captain America film or the Edgar Wright-directed Ant Man. However, Disney has another untitled Marvel film scheduled to come out just weeks later in May, 2014.
Disney’s other scheduled Marvel projects include Iron Man 3 for May 3, 2013 and Thor 2 for Nov. 15, 2013.
