Disney to Plant 2.7 Million Trees

Disney is using the money that their nature documentary, "Earth," made to plant trees in the rain forest.

Walt Disney Studios is using the money they made from Earth to plant 2.7 million trees in a rain forest in Brazil. Earth is a documentary following the lives of three families—polar bears, elephants, and humpback whales.

It opened on Earth Day and made $16.1 million during its first week. This number translates into 2.7 million trees, according to the Associated Press. The Nature Conservancy will plant the trees in their effort to bring back to life 2.5 acres of the rain forest.

Walt Disney Studios chairman, Dick Cook, said in a statement: "Through the Conservancy's Plant a Billion Trees campaign, we have an opportunity to honor those who supported 'Earth' by making a tangible and lasting contribution to conserving globally significant wildlife habitat."
