Dodd To Endorse Obama
Democratic Sen. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut plans to endorse former presidential opponent Barack Obama, Yahoo reports.
Dodd will endorse the first term Senator from Illinois in Cleveland Tuesday, Yahoo gathers from an unnamed Democratic source close to Dodd.
Dodd's support might provide a large boost in both Ohio and Texas on March 4, where Obama lags behind in the polls. Especially considering Dodd, 63, has served the party for more than 18 years in the Senate, and has served as the Democratic National Committee chairman from 1995-1996.
Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton were both vying for Dodd's support since he dropped out of the presidential race following a very disappointing showing in the Iowa caucus in January.
Somewhat explaining why he chose to place his support behind Obama was the fact that during Dodd's run he shared many of the same views as the Illinois Senator.
Dodd stressed the importance of uniting people, education and took a vehement anti-war stance among other things.
Dodd's support hopes to give Obama's campaign the inner-party support where Clinton still seems to have the (slight) advantage.
