Don Hewitt passes
Creator of news program "60 Minutes," Don Hewitt has died at 86 years old. The Hollywood Reporter states that "60 Minutes" has made CBS more than a billion dollars in its run, which is more than any television program ever instituted has made. Hewitt worked at CBS for more than 50 years and produced and directed many major broadcasted events like the coronation of Pope John Paul XXIII and Queen Elizabeth II. Hewitt remained executive producer of "60 minutes" until the age of 80, but afterwards still held the reins as producer for CBS News. Hewitt won eight Emmys in his lifetime and two Peabody Awards. Hewitt also specialized in the following of presidential campaigns, from Kennedy to Eisenhower and Nixon.
Hewitt was losing a battle to Pancreatic cancer when he died in his home, with his family, says CNN.com. Jon Klein, president of CNN, said that Hewitt was always enthusiastic about telling stories.
