Double Pleasure - Spears to Open the VMAs and Aguilera to Perform
It's going to be like a flashback to the late 1990s this Sunday at MTV's Video Music Awards. Not only is Britney Spears going to open the award ceremony, but fellow pop tartlet Christina Aguilera is scheduled to perform, according to OK! Magazine.
Aguilera confirmed Thursday that she will be performing at the show. This will be her first television performance after giving birth to her son, Max, early this year.
Rumors have been circulating during the weeks prior to the event that Spears would follow up her disastrous performance during the 2007 VMAs with a true comeback performance this year.
Whether it was MTV who said, "No thanks," to a dej? vu performance or Spears who didn't want the ridicule a second time around, a possible Spears performance has been replaced by Aguilera, the star's biggest rival of the late '90s.
Spears and Aguilera made one of the VMAs most memorable performances in 2003 when they smooched Madonna on stage after she opened the show by performing a medley of her hits.
Aguilera hit pop stardom with her single, "Genie in a Bottle." Spears first came into the spotlight with her single, "Hit Me Baby, One More Time."
