Doublemint Puts Chris Brown Commercials On Hold
The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company has decided to suspend their recent Doublemint gum ad campaign featuring singer Chris Brown. This decision comes after Brown was arrested on Sunday for making criminal threats, according to MTV News.
"Wrigley is concerned by the serious allegations made against Chris Brown. We believe Mr. Brown should be afforded the same due process as any citizen," the Wrigley company said in a statement to MTV News. "However, we have made the decision to suspend the current advertising featuring Brown and any related marketing communications until the matter is resolved."
The partnership between the singer and Wrigley began last summer. For the commercials, which first aired last August, Brown remixed his popular song "Forever," turning it into a tune for Doublemint. The ad also appeared during Sunday night's Grammy awards broadcast, which Brown was not present at, due to what was thought to be a car accident.
Rather than a car accident, Brown was involved in a domestic dispute. A 911 call to the Los Angeles Police Department around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning revealed that some kind of domestic violence had occurred. Brown turned himself in for the crime that day and was then released on $50,000 bail.
There is still speculation as to who Brown's victim was in the incident, with rumors circulating that it was singer Rihanna, Brown's girlfriend. The LAPD would only identify the victim as a woman who "suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker." However, media sources have attempted to confirm the rumors, saying that Rihanna filled out a police report using her given name, Robyn Fenty.
Spokespeople for Brown and Rihanna have yet to comment on the issue.
