Downey plans for 'Due Date'
With "Iron Man 2" in post-production, actor Robert Downey, Jr.'s next project is the Warner Bros. comedy, "Due Date," where he will star along with Zach Galifianakis of "The Hangover."
According to an article on Variety.com, "Downey will play an expectant father on a road trip with a mismatched partner, racing to get to the birth of his first child."
The director of the movie will be Todd Phillips. His directing credits include the 2003 Will Ferrell comedy, "Old School," the 2004 Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson action comedy remake of the popular 1970s television series, "Starsky & Hutch," and the 2009 Bradley Cooper crime comedy, "The Hangover." Phillips will also produce the film under his Green Hat banner with Daniel Goldberg, who produced "Old School" and "The Hangover." Scott Budnick will be the executive producer of the movie. He also was the executive producer of "The Hangover."
Downey's castmate, Galifianakis, who became a breakout star thanks to his performance in this year's smash comedy, "The Hangover," will play Downey's unusual road trip partner. Phillips has said, when asked about the movie, that it is "a buddy comedy without the buddies."
The script was penned by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland and revised by Adam Sztykiel. Shooting will begin on Sept. 21 in Atlanta, New Mexico and Los Angeles.
The Variety.com article goes on to say, "Deal [which CAA put together] comes just after the $34 million budgeted 'The Hangover' crossed the $240 million domestic B.O. mark to pass 'Beverly Hills Cop' and become the highest grossing R-rated comedy of all time. Downey firmed his deal as he appeared at Comic-Con to promote Warner Bros.' Christmas release of Guy Ritchie's 'Sherlock Holmes' and Paramount and Marvel's May 7 release of Jon Favreau's 'Iron Man 2.'"
