Dr. Phil Regrets Issuing Statement on Britney

USA Today reports Dr. Phil stating he does not regret his visit to Britney in the hospital, but he does wish he had not issued a statement about it.Dr. Phil's episode that was going to focus on Spears's situation has since been canceled. The episode was intended as a follow-up to an October episode that also focused on the troubled pop star. Phil McGraw said that Lynne Spears was also scheduled to appear on the show, however a Spears family representative told NBC'S Today that Britney's mother never intended to appear on Dr.Phil, according to USA Today.

USA Today also reports that the talk show host still stands by his statement that Britney is "in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention," and that he visited Spears as "a friend and ally of the family," not as a psychologist.

Phil McGraw has not practiced medicine for several years and is not licensed in California.
