Dwayne Johnson to Star in 'Journey' Sequel
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson ("The Tooth Fairy") will star in the sequel to "Journey to the Center of the Earth."
Brendan Fraser starred in the 2008 film, but passed on the sequel because of a scheduling conflict. With Fraser out of the picture, New Line sought a new action star. Negotiations with Johnson are expected to end this week, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" will follow explorer Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) as he looks for his missing grandfather on a mysterious and monster-filled island. Johnson will play the boyfriend of Anderson's mother.
Filming will take place in October with locations in North Carolina and Hawaii.
"Journey" was one of the first films to be shot in 3D and made over $250 million.
Johnson is currently filming "The Fast and the Furious 5" with Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Elsa Pataky.
