A prequel to the prime time hit soap 'Dynasty' is headed to the big screen

The classic soap opera, Dynasty, is heading to the big screen, according to creator Richard Shapiro. Shapiro told E! News’ Mark Malkin that the movie will be a prequel to the 1980s soap and will be set in the 1960s.

“It’s not the wild and crazy 1960s, but early Kennedy years,” he said.

The prequel, his daughter’s idea, will be about how a “young Blake doesn’t realize he’s the son of Tom Carrington,” Shapiro said. Blake then becomes the head of the company and is surrounded by people “who want to do him in.”

The original hit prime-time soap revolved around the Carringtons, an oil-rich Denver family. It was headed by Blake Carrington (John Forsythe) and his second wife and former secretary, Krystle (Linda Evans). She wasn’t welcomed to the family, and her situation was further complicated by the arrival of Blake’s ex-wife, Alexis (Joan Collins).

The script will be shopped around soon, and although casting hasn’t begun, original cast member Joan Collins already has ideas about who should play Alexis and Blake.

For Alexis, Collins told E! Online she thinks Gemma Arterton “has all the qualities Alexis needs. She’s sexy. She looks clever and she’s kind of vixenous.”

As for Blake, Collins thinks Chris Pine would be “great."

"He’s a wonderful actor,” she said.
