Elle Magazine Responds to Critics Over Gabourey Sidibie Cover

Elle Magazine is being put in the hot seat, due to their cover featuring 27-year old Precious actress, Gabourey Sidibe.

CBS News reports that Sidibe was put on the cover of the magazine in conjunction with three other stars -- Lauren Conrad, Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried – as they were picked to be the four cover girls in October to mark Elle Magazine’s 25th anniversary.

Furthermore, the issue is dedicated to 25 "Most Notable Women Under 25,” although Sidibe is 27.

However, that slight glitch is not worrying critics.

Rather, they’re upset with the way Sidibe’s dark skin is shown as lighter as well as her portrayal from her shoulders up, as compared to the waist up like the other cover-girls.

Elle said in a statement to Yahoo, “We have four separate covers this month and Gabby's cover was not retouched any more or less than the others.”

They added, “We shot this as a story of exuberant young women changing the world. If you take a look at the portfolio, each of the women were shot in different ways and for different reasons."
