Ellen Is Leaving 'Idol'!

J. Lo rumored to be her replacement

It’s official: Despite a reported two-year contract, Ellen DeGeneres has been voted off American Idol, leaving two open slots on the infamous judges panel.

The talk show comic is bowing out after serving only one season, according to the Associated Press, although she still has plans to stick around the music business. Earlier this spring, she announced her intention to sign 12-year-old YouTube star Greyson Michael Chance to her budding label, eleveneleven.

DeGeneres said it was her decision to leave and explained that while she enjoyed working with young talent, she had difficulty judging performers.

“It was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings," she told the AP.

No replacement has been confirmed, although Deadline reports Jennifer Lopez is on tap to take DeGeneres’ seat.

Simon Cowell, one of the show’s original three judges, has already announced plans to leave the show, according to the Huffington Post, and speculation about his replacement has run the gamut from Sir Elton John to Justin Timberlake.

Actually, there could also be a chance to replace a third judge, Kara DioGuardi, who has not signed a contract for the upcoming season next January.

Although Fox’s American Idol is still the country’s top show, the snarky reality singing contest showed weakness last year, dropping nearly five million viewers and losing individual weeks to ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.
