Ellen Page Returns to the Big Screen

Ellen Page plays the lead character in a film directed by Drew Barrymore.

You may have been wondering where Ellen Page disappeared to after the huge success of Juno, but don't worry, she's back. Page, 22, took some time off from acting to get in touch with nature at an eco-village in Oregon, and has now returned to the spotlight with more confidence than before and a new movie to boot.

"Whip It" has intrigue in the names behind it alone. Drew Barrymore is expanding on her role as one of Hollywood's favorite ‘It' girls by taking a spot in the director's chair. Page will play the lead role of Bliss Cavendar, a formerly demure beauty pageant princess who breaks out of her shell to become a tough roller-derby competitor.

Page's enthusiasm over the role seems to stem from an ability to connect with the character.

"The awesome thing about playing Bliss was playing a girl who at first, is introverted, shy and uncomfortable in her own skin…" Paige explained to USA Today. She went on to add that discovering a new sport "makes her develop confidence, which leads to a sense of sensuality. It's a powerful moment in anyone's life."

Barrymore chose Page based on an instant belief that she was perfect for the role upon first meeting the young star. In fact, Page was selected before she even began filming Juno.

Also joining the cast is Landon Pigg, who plays Page's love interest. As of now the indie rocker is perhaps only known for the songs he recorded for shows such as "Grey's Anatomy" and "One Tree Hill," but he could soon be Hollywood's latest heartthrob.

"Whip It" opens Friday.
