Elton John Criticizes Material Girl

At the Q Music Awards, Elton John showed immediate contempt of pop superstar Madonna when she was nominated for the best live act for her "Re-Invention" world tour. John accused her of lip-synching during her performance.

"Since when has lip-synching been live?" John said. "Anyone who lip-synchs in public on stage when you pay 75 pounds (134 U.S. dollars) to see them should be shot.

In retaliation, Madonna's spokesman, Liz Rosenberg, sought to prove John wrong.

"Madonna does not lip-synch nor does she spend her time trashing other artists," said Rosenberg. "She sang every note of her Re-Invention tour live and is not ashamed that she was well paid for her hard work."

According to Rosenberg, John's comments were not taken too seriously. She light-heartedly also commented he would remain on Madonna's Christmas card list whether he is nice or naughty.

This incident is a follow up to the opinionated Elton John. Last month, he insulted Taiwanese photographers upon arrival for a concert in China.
