Singer Elton John is aiding rapper Eminem in his quest to stop his drug use.

"I've been helping Eminem over the last 18 months and he's doing brilliantly," John says, reports the British Press Association.

The 62-year-old Oscar winner spoke freely to the U.K.’s BBC Radio 5 on Saturday about his own battle with substance abuse stating that if people want his help, he will be glad to give it but there is no point if a person isn’t truly committed to getting clean.

Eminem admitted to his destructive drug addiction in May confessing to downing as many as 20 Vicodin, Ambien and Valium in a single day.

"The numbers got so high," he said. "I don't even know what I was taking.”

Following the 37-year-old rapper’s first trip to rehab in 2005, he nearly overdosed after an acquaintance gave him a batch of unidentified blue pills, which were later revealed by a doctor to be the opiate painkiller Methadone.

Eminem, who was born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, rose to mainstream popularity in 1999 following the release of his major-label debut album “The Slim Shady LP,” which won him the Grammy for Best Rap Album. His follow-up “The Marshall Mathers LP” became the fastest selling hip-hop album in history. With both “The Marshall Mathers LP” and his third album “The Eminem Show” both winning Grammys, Eminem became the first artist to win Best Rap Album for three consecutive LP's.
