Elton John to Hit TV

He may not like Madonna, but there's nothing like paying homage to old rockers.

Elton John is developing ABC comedy about an aging rock superstar and the people around him.

According to Variety, John plans to base his character not on himself, but on his contemporaries, pop icons like Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie.

"It's not about me, but about everybody we've encountered over the past 30 years," Elton told Variety. "We've met every star and seen every misbehavior. And it's about the people around the star, who have to put up with them. It's an upmarket 'Spinal Tap.'"

John has already written a song for the project, "Him and Us," which will appear on his 43rd album Peachtree Road, due in U.S. stores on Tuesday.

The singer, 57, just opened up a Las Vegas revue that is set to run for three years. It looks like Sir Elton John's schedule will be busy as ever.
