Elton John Recognized at Kennedy Center Honors
The legendary rock star, alongside other artists, was honored on Sunday at the White House.
Elton John was just one of the stars honored on Sunday at the 27th annual Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday. The event that was held at the White House recognized performing artists for their lifetime contributions to American pop culture.
When actor Robert Downy Jr. introduced the 57-year-old rock pianist, he presented him as a "genius, life saver, the other first lady." The lukewarm crowd which included President George Bush, Senator John Kerry, his wife, Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice, found little humor in his introduction.
Other artists that received acknowledgments were actor Warren Beatty, film composer John Williams, opera star Joan Sutherland and husband and wife actors Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee.
