Eminem Dominates the Charts in Opening Week
Eminem's latest Interscope/Shady/Aftermath release, Relapse, is on pace to have great commercial success in sales. According to Hits Daily Double, Eminem's sixth studio album is expected to sell between 600,000 and 650,000 copies based on first-day sales.
Relapse is on track to sell roughly 300,000 units at Best Buy stores alone. HipHopDx.com reports that the record sold over 6,000 copies by 10 a.m. on its first day of release, May 19. Based on this projection, about 300,000 copies will be purchased in its first week of sales.
According to Billboard, Eminem's strong comeback also translates overseas. Entertainment retailer HMV reports that total sales in the U.K. will add up to over 175,000 copies.
On the iTunes Store Top 10 Album Charts, Relapse is No. 1 in 18 countries, including the U.K., Germany, Australia, Canada, Greece, Japan and the Netherlands.
If current sales projections prove correct when the official numbers are compiled next week, then Eminem's latest album will have the most successful first week of any album this year.
