This past Tuesday, television has lost one of its great writers. David Mills, the Emmy-winning writer and producer has died at the age of 48 in New Orleans. The cause was supposedly a brain aneurysm during shooting of a Treme episode.
Mills is best known for his contribution to dramas such as The Wire and ER. He also won two Emmy Awards in 2000 for the TV miniseries The Corner. At the time of his death, he was working on a show about the wake of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans called Treme.
The HBO cable network has released a few statements about his passing. “HBO is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our dear friend and colleague David Mills. He was a gracious and humble man, and will be sorely missed by those who know and loved him, as well as those who were aware of his immense talent.”
In addition to his lost list of TV credentials, Mills also maintained a very knowledgeable pop-culture blog known as Undercover Black Man. On the blog he did social commentary as well as expressing his love for music, TV, and movies.
