End in Sight for "Prison Break"
Fans of Fox's hit television show, Prison Break, were looking forward to seeing the conclusion of its fourth season this spring, but will instead will be seeing the show itself come to an end.
According to HollywoodReporter.com, an announcement was made by Fox on Tuesday morning, saying that the show - which focuses on a pair of wrongfully-convicted brothers who are trying to escape from jail and unravel the conspiracy that put them there - has been cancelled and that the episodes airing beginning April 17 will be its last.
Prison Break first aired in 2005, and was amongst a group of new shows on broadcast television, including hits like Lost and 24, that were adopting longer, multi-episode (and multi-season) plotlines.
Such a format had previously usually been limited to premium-cable networks, with an example being the immensely popular Sopranos. But the advent of seasons-on-DVD and Internet video streaming have allowed many more shows of that type to succeed in a world where viewers who miss an episode have many more options available if they want to catch up.
