Erykah Badu Pays Up

Badu receives six months probation and $500 fine for disorderly conduct.

In March, controversy was aflutter because of Erykah Badu’s music video for the song “Window Seat,” where she stripped down in Delaney Plaza, the place where John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and acted as if a bullet hit her. The public was upset that Badu had chosen to walk nude in public (the nudity, which lasted only for a few moments, was blurred out in the video) - especially because children were visible in the video. After a Dallas news station covered the story, a witness soon filed a complaint, and Dallas authorities said that they would charge Badu for disorderly conduct.

Today, a Dallas spokesperson said that Badu has paid a $500 fine and will serve six months probation. Badu’s spokesperson declined to comment on the situation, but in an interview after the ordeal, she said, “People are uncomfortable with sexuality that’s not for male consumption… Do you think people would have been complaining if I had on high-heel shoes?”

You can watch Badu’s newest music video for a remix of “Window Seat,” featuring Rick Ross, and “Turn Me Away (Get MuNNY)" below. It is a continuation of the last video.
