Everyone's Favorite Green Ogre Is Not Yet Extinct!

The worst fears of the producers of Shrek the Third were luckily not confirmed--the film broke the record previously set by its predecessor: it brought in the most money of any animated film in its first weekend. Grossing $122 million, Shrek the Third knocked Spider-Man 3 from its No. 1 spot, another final installment in a popular trilogy.

Such a fabulous performance was not expected by all of Shrek the Third, with some analysts expecting it to bring in less than Shrek 2, which opened with $108 million. Ann Daly, Dreamworks chief operating officer, shared her excitement with Reuters. "We can't believe it. I'm thrilled," she exclaimed.

Shrek the Third also broke the record for the biggest opening of all time for distributor Paramount Pictures. Though both Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third were not well receieved by critics, the popular audience seems to enjoy the films, sending messages to the producers to keep them coming!
