Ex-“Grey’s Anatomy” producer joins new USA series

James Parriott, who served as the executive producer on the first two seasons of the hugely successful ABC medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” will be assuming the role yet again on a new USA Network spy drama entitled “Covert Affairs.”

According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “’Covert,’ from Universal Cable Prods., stars Piper Perabo as Annie Walker, a multilingual CIA trainee unexpectedly promoted to field operative while reeling over a mysterious ex-boyfriend who appears to be of particular interest to her agency bosses. Parriott is expected to co-run the series with creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord.’”

However, Parriott will not be the sole showrunner on the project. Dutch Oven's Dave Bartis and Doug Liman will share the executive producing duties with Parriott while Corman and Ord will be the show’s co-executive producers.

“Covert” is scheduled for either a fall or summer launch and will shoot on location in Toronto.

The HollywoodReporter.com goes on to talk about other shows that Parriott had a hand in making into major hits, “Parriott helped get ABC pair ‘Grey's Anatomy’ and ‘Ugly Betty’ and FX's ‘Sons of Anarchy’ off the ground, serving as an exec producer on… the freshman campaigns of ‘Betty’ and ‘Sons.’”

As for his credentials, Parriott is a veteran writer, producer and director with projects under his belt like creating as well as executive producing the Fox TV Studios drama "Defying Gravity.” He also created and wrote the CBS vampire drama series “Forever Knight,” which aired from 1992 to 1996 and was voted number 23 in “TV Guide’s” Top 25 Cult TV Shows of All Time special issue.
