Fall Fashion Brings Back the 80s!
I have convinced myself to never throw out old, outdated clothing because fashion is a never-ending cycle. For this fall, boy am I glad I kept old styles; the 80s are back!
Since the New Year, I have felt as if every time I walked into a clothing store, I was taking a trip into a time machine. I swore, every decade since the 1950s have made a comeback, all at once! Sailor wear, hippie wear, all American, and disco-rama!
Now for fall 2010, trends which were made famous in the 1980s are becoming recreated, starting with white boy blazers. Blazers have been a trend for several months now and have worked out perfectly. It spices up any outfit, from an evening outfit to a floral dress.
A white blazer allows you to add some brightness to your outfit. But be careful to ensure that the blazer does not pass your hip, otherwise you will look like your are rocking a lab coat. Celebrities like Kate Moss and Kim Kardashian have been seen wearing this new trend.
Plaid shirts are definitely a trend to grab hold of for the fall. They have been in the trend-watch just as long as the blazer. However this time, make sure to go big. Baggy plaid or flannel shirts are best to fit this trend and larger plaid shirts look great on any body type. Wear it unbuttoned layering over a tee with great boots, or wear it over some daisy dukes. Fashionistas Lauren Conrad and Mary Kate Olsen have been seen getting their plaid on.
Studded boots have made style appearances over the past few years, but are definitely in for this fall. The boots that were once exclusively for bikers have been used to add a little edge to outfits all over Hollywood. Megan Fox and Sienna Miller have been seen wearing them. Pair them with a floral dress or jeans and a killer belt.
Cross body bags are a new trend that was seen all over the runways during Fashion Week. The 80s inspired handbags are heaven! The long chain allows it to cross across your body, allowing you to be hands free. They are thrifty and comfortable, but don’t wear them too long or slouchy and PLEASE do not tie a huge knot at the top to make its length shorter. Reese Witherspoon and Blake Lively already purchased their cross body bags.
Last but not least, a combination of the studded boot and the cross body bag, studded handbags! I have seen designers use this technique often from across the world, but lately I think there is an explosion of studded handbags. They are available with short straps or long straps, for the cross body look. There are studded handbags for all tastes.
More studs, the more rock-and-roll the style looks while pink studs look more girly. When wearing a studded handbag, be sure not to pair it with a busy outfit. Try wearing it with a tight tee and jeans or a short skirt. Elise Wells was seen with her studded handbag on the set of Gossip Girl, as well as fellow NYC girl, Whitney Port.
