Fallon Officially Named "Late Night" Host

Jimmy Fallon will take over for Conan O'Brien (who replaces Jay Leno) in 2009.

As was reported weeks ago by TheCelebrityCafe.com, Jimmy Fallon was officially named the replacement for Conan O'Brien on NBC's Late Night talk show Monday.

The announcement came as Fallon appeared alongside Lorne Michaels, the executive producer of Saturday Night Live, and the most influential person in picking the replacement to O'Brien.

When he takes over in June of 2009, Fallon will be 34 years old. When O'Brien took over, he was 30. And as he has said in the past, Michaels tries to attract a much younger audience when compared to other networks (specifically CBS) in the Late Night timeslot.

Changing pace, Fallon's move comes on the heels of a film career that has struggled after his departure from the SNL stage, and has left many to question whether or not he will be a success.

Many experts, according to an article in the New York Times, question whether Fallon's acting background will allow him to be himself each night, a trait vital to the success of talk show hosts.

Only time will tell.
