Fallon Takes to the Web

Jimmy Fallon is using Webisodes to prepare for his late night gig and to pique viewers' attention.

Fans of the former Saturday Night Live cast member, Jimmy Fallon, will be able to see daily video blogs of Fallon beginning at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, on NBC's Web site.

According to Variety, "Although originally conceived as a dry run for Fallon's takeover of 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien,' the webisodes will instead be more low-fi, freeform-style looks at what Fallon is up to on the eve of his hosting gig."

It seems likely for NBC to announce the official start date of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to be sometime in March.

This could mean O'Brien could step down from his Late Night post as early as February to assume the helm as the Tonight Show host. NBC has already announced that O'Brien assumes the Tonight Show post, from Jay Leno, on June 1.

The Variety article goes on to say, "The Fallon webcasts - which will run about five minutes - will change every day. They may range from a behind-the-scenes look at a Fallon standup gig or to a riff on something he's found on the streets to a clip of Fallon running around his new offices."

Little has been released about the show, but rumors are circulating that the hip-hop group, the Roots, will join as the show's house band.
