Famous Hollywood Sign Could Go "Green"
They say that everyone and everything is going green these days. If you're planning on taking a trip to do some star searching in Hollywood any time soon, you may not be able to take a picture of the famous Hollywood sign. Thanks to the green movement, the sign may soon get covered by an environmental message!
Fear not, however!
Work was supposed to start today, February 9, but some bureaucratic confusion has postponed the decision to grant them permission. Should they get it, they will cover the sign with another pleading viewers to "Save the Peak."
Cahuenga Peak consists of 138 acres adjacent to the sign and has many hiking trails. The group has raised $6.3 million to buy the sign and needs $6.2 million more, or the hill could become covered by four very large houses that would spoil the iconic view.
The group has celebrity backing, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Virginia Madsen, Tippi Hedren, John Slattery, Aisha Tyler, Julian McMahon, James Kyson-Lee, Beau Garrett and Katherine Morris. If the group meets its deadline of March 24, they will donate the land to the city, making it a part of Griffith Park.
