Fantasia Barrino Returns to 'American Idol'

The singer performed her new single 'Bittersweet.'

Fantasia Barrino returned to American Idol on Wednesday night and opened up last weeks results show with a performance of her new single, "Bittersweet."

Barrino had vocal problems that caused her to miss 50 shows of her Broadway musical version of The Color Purple, but the singer is overcoming obstacles and is preparing for the release of her new album due out this summer.

When asked about her album by Idol host Ryan Seacrest Fantasia said, "It's been too long, it's time for me to have an album out right now," RTT News reports.

On Wednesday's results show, soulful Michael Lynche was voted off, leaving Crystal Bowersox, Lee Dewyze and Casey James in the final three. Bon Jovi and Daughtry also performed.

Big Mike was left on the outside looking in and he was soon eliminated from the competition. He once again sang Michael Jackson's "Will You Be There," which sounded a bit better last night than it did on Tuesday.

Fantasia's album, which remains untitled will hit stores on July 13.
