Fantasy Football Week 2 Recap

Time to analyze the surprises and disapointments of week 2.

Week two was full of surprises in the world of fantasy football. Let's get right to the pleasant surprises and utter disappointments and figure out what they mean for the rest of the season.

Surprise: Jamal Lewis (216 yards and a touchdown versus the Bengals) -- He's not on waivers in many leagues, and he's too much of a risk to trade for. Just forget Sunday's imitation of "2003 Jamal Lewis" ever happened. He's got the Raiders in week three, but I don't see him breaking 100 yards again, let alone 200.

Disappointment: Stephen Jackson (60 rush yards, 36 receiving yards versus the Niners) -- I warned you about this guy last week. He needs Orlando Pace to have a chance of punching it in from the goal line so he won't be getting many touchdowns this year. Trade him if you still can.

Surprise: DeShawn Wynn (50 rush yards, 2 TD, 18 receiving yards versus the Giants) -- And that's all without the starting job. This week, he'll be starting. He's probably already off the waiver wire in your league, but if he's not, get him while you can.

Disappointment: Cedric Benson (101 rush yards, nine receiving yards versus the Chiefs) -- I know, I know. If you can't score on the Chiefs, who are you gonna score on? But don't lost faith, he still rushed for over 100 yards, and the Bears are going to be running the ball to protect their leads a lot this season. Have some faith, Benson will be fine.

Surprise: Braylon Edwards (146 yards, two TD versus the Bengals) -- It's not as impressive that he put up those numbers, as it is how he did it. Did you see his diving catch for his second touchdown? Edwards has some serious talent, and most talented wide receivers breakthrough in their third season in the league.

Disappointment: Drew Brees (260 yards, TD, INT versus the Bucs) -- Maybe Brees just doesn't like playing against the Cover two. If you drafted Brees, you'll know everything you need to know about him Monday night against the Titans. If he bombs then it's time to start thinking about making a move to replace him in your lineup. I expect him to rise to the occasion.

Surprise: Brett Favre (286 yards, three TD, INT versus the Giants) -- Can we call it a surprise when the all time wins leader (149 and counting) puts up three touchdowns against a weak defense? I say yes. Favre was throwing bullets in tight throwing lanes on Sunday. He looked like the Brett Favre I remember LAST time O.J. was in jail. He might still be on waivers in your league. It wouldn't be a bad idea to pick him up, especially if you have Brees. You know, just in case.
