Fargo School Flooded After Dikes Breached
The Oak Grove Lutheran School in Fargo, North Dakota flooded early this morning after a permanent flood wall that had been on campus broke, allowing the water to swamp the school campus. All of Fargo has been threatened by record level flood waters since last week when the Red River swelled up to new heights.
The Red River crested on Friday night at a height of 40.82 ft. and has been receding since then, but rescue operations are still underway as the waters, still 22 ft. above flood levels, pose a serious threat to Fargo residents and Morehead, the city on the other side of the Red River banks. Volunteers have been working non-stop since last week to fill sandbags to create dikes to stop the flood waters, but the water levels exceeded anyone's expectations. President Barack Obama declared a disaster zone in parts of Minnesota and all of North Dakota.
Volunteers, along with the National Guard, are already working to help repair damage to the Oak Grove Lutheran School.
