Farm to Table

Kate and the kids visit a longtime Amish friend to buy fresh vegetables, as well as have a game night.

This week's episode of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" was one of memories, cooperation, and concern.

The episode began when Kate brought her kids to Henry's farm, a longtime Amish friend of the family, who sells his crops and vegetables to Kate and her family. Kate likes it when she gets the chance to buy fresh vegetables for her family. This trip to Henry's was a memorable one especially, because it brought back many memories of their days in their old house. When the family lived closer to him, Kate would go to Henry's at least daily, in the summer. So this was a special treat for everyone. The kids even remembered who he is.

To continue down memory lane, on their drive home, Kate stopped at an old playground the family used to spend time at. Here they had a snack, and the kids ran around and played on the playground. This adventure was short-lived though, because the heat was starting to get to some of them. So the group of nine packed up and headed home.

Once they reached home, they began preparing dinner. The younger kids even got the chance to help out when all the kids helped peel the corn outside. After the corn was peeled, Mady and Cara voluntarily helped Kate out in the kitchen by doing the dishes and cutting up some of the vegetables they had just bought.

After helping out in the kitchen, all the kids played with their musical instruments while Kate finished cooking dinner. Between the chaos of kids running around the house, Kate commented that "everything has suddenly gotten normal." Although she can't say that she's not lonely sometimes, because sometimes she is, it has all gotten better.

Finally, dinner is ready. The nine of them sit down for a dinner of chicken cacciatore and corn-on-the-cob. Everyone enjoyed the meal very much.

To finish off the night, Kate had planned a "game night" for everyone. It didn't go quite as planned though. Cara had been complaining about her footing hurting for quite some time now (a couple of weeks), so Kate finally decided to call the doctor. They said they could get Cara in right away that night.

Kate had the babysitter bring Cara to the doctor, while she stayed home to play games with the other kids. They played Gator Golf and Picktureka. Everyone had fun playing the games.

As soon as the younger kids began getting ready for bed, Kate received a call from the doctor. They suggested that Cara see a radiologist to have an x-ray taken, to make sure it wasn't broken. Kate wanted her to see the radiologist that night, so the babysitter came home to watch the other kids, while Kate toke Cara to the radiologist late that night. Everything turned out alright. Fortunately, Cara only bruised her foot.

As another week passes, Kate is adjusting better to the surroundings, Cara and Mady begin to appreciate all the work their mom does and decides to lend a hand, and everyone is thankful for Cara's minimal injury.
