Farrah Fawcett Dies at 62

Actress succumbs to three year battle with cancer.

Farrah Fawcett, best known for her role on the 1970s hit television show, "Charlie's Angels," died on Thursday in Santa Monica, California, after a three year battle with cancer. Fawcett's famous red swimsuit poster and frequent television appearances propelled her sex symbol status and made her one of the most recognizable faces in the world for two decades. She once famously said of her success on "Charlie's Angels":

"When the show was number three, I figured it was our acting. When it got to be number one, I decided it could only be because none of us wears a bra."

Fawcett's battle with cancer was intimately captured on the documentary, "Farrah's Story," a raw look into her personal struggles. The effort received some criticism from those that felt the show revealed the preferential treatment afforded to celebrities.

According to the New York Times, Fawcett was born on February 2, 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was an art student at the University of Texas when a Hollywood publicist convinced her to pursue a career in show business. She was married to actor Lee Majors for nine years and appeared on his show, "The Six Million Dollar Man," before garnering national attention in "Charlie's Angels."

Fawcett was 62 at the time of her death and is survived by fiance Ryan O'Neal and their son, Redmond.
