Fashion and football have taken over New York City. After defeating the Patriots in the Super Bowl, Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz cut the red ribbon symbolizing the start of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
The 25-year-old football player has more in common with fashion week than expected. Not only has he scored a contract with the elite IMG modeling agency, he has also signed an endorsement deal with Nike. Cruz even paired with former Giants player Nate Collins to create a men’s clothing line named Young Whales.
After debuting their label in 2010, women wanted a piece of the football players’ fashion sense as well. According to Extra, Cruz said he is in the process of developing a women’s line but did not state when the collection would be finished.
Following the ribbon cutting, Cruz commented on the whirlwind of winning the Super Bowl.
“It still hasn’t even sunk in. I’ve been going to everything, doing the parade and all, but it still hasn’t really sunk in. We’ve just been taking every day as it comes,” he explained.
So what’s next for the salsa-dancing stud? Women’s Wear Daily reported that Cruz plans to take his family on a vacation once all of the craziness subsides.
He also responded to questions about another fashion and football lover, Gisele Bundchen. The supermodel and wife to Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, created a stir when she attempted to stick up for her husband.
“Obviously, she was still a little emotional. That’s what you do for your partner. It would be wrong if she didn’t. But it’s not right to talk about the team,” Cruz said.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was just the beginning of fashion week for Cruz. He has chosen to attend the Tommy Hilfiger and Naeem Khan shows.
