Fashion Week Walks Forward
Fashion Week will never be the same. Not only is New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week showing in Bryant Park for the last time after 17 years, but it’s going viral.
The New York Daily News reports designers Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, and Alexander Wang will all be streaming their hush-hush runway shows live via Internet.
This marks the first time eyes will be seeing the precious, unique frocks from outside the exclusive fashion tents.
An insider tells the NY Daily News designers are just trying to keep up with the times and showing their shows online opens up their market to a broader audience.
Translation: more customers equals more money in the bank.
And some of the select few chosen ones lucky enough to score invites might be a little pissed about this new arrangement.
“It's completely transforming the aura around Fashion Week. The event serves as a sort of hierarchy of New York City fashion, and those who get invited to shows are considered worthy of seeing the collections before they hit the stores," the insider tells NY Daily News.
Guess they’ll just have to suffer by knowing us mere normal folks will be seeing the collections at the same time their Chanel sunglasses-covered eyes do.
