Fawcett loses battle with cancer
Farrah Fawcett, '70s icon, actress, and pinup girl, died Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif., according to the Los Angeles Times. She was 62.
Long-time partner, Ryan O'Neal, 68, who recently asked her to marry him, was at her side, according to the New York Daily News. Fawcett, a Catholic, received last rites from a priest Wednesday night. Despite drug arrests, their 24-year-old son was there for his mother during her treatment.
Texas-born Fawcett was diagnosed with anal cancer in September 2006. After treatment she was declared cancer-free in February 2007. Three months later, however, the cancer returned. She traveled to Germany to seek alternative therapies, but came back to the United States still with cancer, according to USA Today.
The New York Daily News reported that she said she believed she had gotten cancer for a reason, was asking God for a miracle, and did not want to die of the disease.
